Day 6 Roll Up

Day 6 looked a lot like Day 5. A little better, more sitting up, a decent walk, attempts at food.

Justin’s fluid intake via IV decreased significantly today, which is good, unless you’re post-op Justin. Not that I’m one to talk, but I swear that man drank 3 oz of water! Ok, maybe 6 with the ice crunching, yet still not enough. Friends, I try to encourage, but I get the tisk-tisk, eye roll, “Christina, I know.” Can’t say I blame him, with the threat of vomiting, I’d do anything to avoid that, too.

Justin lost another IV today from infiltration. And get this… he opted to completely take away his pain meds as opposed to getting a new IV. White Coat Syndrome is strong with this one! But his gamble paid off as they were able to run his PCA (patient- controlled analgesia) through his port. It’s the small things, really. And the silver lining, tape is coming off in small doses.

Food, another item where Justin has hit a wall. Every commercial he tells me how hungry he is, how good “everything” looks. Then we order scrumptious chicken broth and boom, won’t eat. Now that isn’t completely true, he did have a bowl of rice cereal and sugar-free pudding. A solid 55 and a half calories.

The dietician stopped by today and this woman is pure genius. I take back every negative thing I have ever said about the field. She went through all of Justin’s surgery notes (trust me folks, those are extensive!), figured out how much of each part of intestine he has, did blood work, and already gave him a B12 shot (my autocorrect really wants that last word to be something else. Lol!). She gave us all sorts of meal and supplement recommendations and could answer all my questions. Big shout out to Kristen! 🤩 You rock, girl!

Aside from that, just a lot more HGTV. Since we ditched the cable at home, we’re getting our Chip and Joanna fix.

He’s happy in this photo, I promise. You just can’t see his smile.

Again, he’s snoozing hard. I would attach a sound bite as evidence, but his adnoids have a sixth sense of when I hit record.

Thinking of all you! Sending blessings in abundance!

❤️, Christina
