Here we are, day one of recovery.
Justin finally got settled into the ICU around 3:30 last night, total surgery time nearly 18 hours. As mentioned before, he remained intubated through the night and he rested peacefully.
First step today is getting the breathing tube out and let me tell you, he’s pissed. He nearly yanked it out a couple of times. By the time I post this, he’ll likely be done with his SPT (spontaneous breathing trial) and the breathing tube out.
During surgery he lost 1500 mL of blood. Additionally, with the chemo treatment atop the extensive surgery, his fluid balance is still being dialed in. This could take a few days or more.
Justin is somewhat awake now although he is very agitated, so I’m keeping my eye on him from a distance. I know he’s mad I held his hand down to not grab his tubes. Here’s his note to me :

There are some explicit words in there… that’s my boy!!!
You are one strong, amazing woman. Keep it up. Justin’s temper, well, look on the bright side, at least he’s showing signs of normalcy?!

I think I recognize a couple of those words! Thinking about you, take care of yourself, gets some rest. He’s going to need you down the road. I’ll say an extra prayer for Justin and the family.
