Surgery Update

Just before 4:30 I received a call from Justin’s nurse, they had just started the HIPEC chemo treatment and anticipate being done around 8:00. That would put his surgery around 11.5 hours. Although I was hoping for shorter, in my heart I know it’s best they took their time and were thorough.

I was hoping the doctor would come out and proclaim the immense success of the day, and maybe he will before I publish this post, but he’s likely grabbing a snack and resting his back before he deals with me. He’s probably grateful for the visitation policy for me alone. 😛 Last time he promptly left for a skiing trip and we all know I don’t believe in coincidence…

Not much else to share until I hear directly from the doc. The chemo treatment is typically about 2 hours and another hour to sew Justin’s pieces back together. I’m guessing recovery will be in the ICU although the chief resident gave me hope he would be in the PACU then on to a standard room. But we will wait and see. They will let me stay until he is out of surgery with a promise to let me see him before they kick me out onto the street. The waiting room is getting a bit thin, I’m always the last man standing.
